Concert of Prayer

Thursday mornings are rough, but everyone managed to get on their way, and some even finished their projects early. There has been a number of exchanges within the squads in order to assure that no one goes with out a house to work on.

Instead of a normal worship service, tonight was the concert of prayer, a night of praying and worshiping to God, thanking him, glorifying him, praying for strength, wisdom, forgiveness. During the concert of prayer, the mission offering was also collected. This offering is being taken up at all the Mission Serve camps over the summer with an overall goal of $20,000. The offering collected will all go toward funding the Mission Serve project in Alabama next summer as part of the restoration for the tornado victims. Wilmington participants raised $1,281.83 to help make it to the end mark.

Pray that the campers will keep up their spirits tomorrow and finish the week as strong as they started. Some who have finished with projects are going to the beach to clean up trash and hand out water bottles, as it will be hot. Pray that the students will be blessed with opportunities to share God's message.

Free Night!

By the third morning, everyone is ready for their night off full of fun and relaxation. After eating lunch on site, all the campers trip back to the church to prepare for Free Night. Being that this project is next to the ocean, most groups flocked to the shoreline for a beautiful, breezy day on the beach.

Thursday mornings are rough after a fun night about town, so pray that the troops will soldier on through their work with the Holy Spirit in them.

Second Day on Site: Return of the Rain

The second morning is always a little hard than the first. Eventually everyone is up and at 'em and ready to hit the road toward the work site. Though the uninvited rains showed up once more, the work continued to be completed. Everyone's ready for Wednesday night off, too.

During the worship service, Daryl explained the danger of distractions. Distractions are not only dangerous here at Mission Serve in the work environment, but they can also be detrimental in your relationship with God. It's so easy to be overcome by earthly obstacles while trying to follow God's will for you. Pray that the participants will not be easily sidetrack from their main goal here and when they leave: sharing God's love to all.

First Day on Site

Monday morning everyone wakes up with the sun to eat a hardy breakfast before heading to the worksites. However, there was one uninvited guest: the rain. Though the rains poured, it did not extinguish the campers' spirits; they braved it and kept on going. With the storms and the rain comes the humidity, so be praying for the participants as they attempt to maintain hydration this week.

In worship, Daryl spoke on one of the greatest commandments: love. Because God first loved us, we are called to love those around us. Check out 1 Corinthians 13 for one of the clearest explanations you can find. As the campers continue to visit their work sites each day, pray that they would remain persistent in loving their church friends, their squad mates, and their homeowners.

Arrival

Today eight churches made their grand entrances in Wilmington, North Carolina; the steamy rain greeted them first thing. Everyone began by settling in and picking just the right spot for their air mattresses to reside for the week. The campers waited until after dinner, worship, and youth group debriefing to find the fate of their squad and finally meet their work mates for the week.

In worship, Daryl shared a presentation of a partnership with God. We can't fulfill God's will on our own, but God can. Therefore, if we partner with God, we can follow His plan exactly. In Jeremiah 17, he writes that dependence on man will leave us cursed, but those who trust in the Lord will be blessed. Verse 8 explains that the man depending on the Lord over his flesh for strength will be "like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots to the stream." We will be rooted in God and therefore become stronger for it.

Monday morning comes quick and early, keep these campers in your prayers as they face the plan God has for them this week.

Wilmington is back on our schedule in 2011 after being one of our most popular projects in 2009.  We will again be partnering with the city of Wilmington and First Baptist Church of Wilmington.  Wilmington is a popular destination for missions groups and there are a lot of opportunities to minister and rehabilitate homes. This project will be coordinated by Walter and Sue Hisle, who have coordinated several projects for Mission Serve. Erik Langston and Daryl Trexler will be leading in worship.  This a great coastal location and will be a wonderful missions experience.
