Day Seven: Friday

Mission Serve Wetmpka 2011 is officially in the books. The squads wrapped up their final day of work this afternoon, with some working into the late afternoon. Over the course of this week, twelve homes were restored and countless lives were changed.

This evening, Jeremy spoke about how we must be grounded and faithful. We must surrender everything to God and follow his plan. He used the passage of Genesis 22, in which Abraham is willing to sacrifice his son Isaac to follow God's command.

Many of the churches have already headed for home, and the rest will leave in the morning. Please keep them in your prayers as they travel home and spread the love of Christ as they go forth.

Over and out from Wetumpka,

Mikki and Taylor

Day Six: Thursday

The squads have had a restful day off and are on the downward slope of completing their projects. After an afternoon of movies, bowling, and baseball, the participants arose this morning eager to get back to work. The squads have powered through their work so well that we have had to find yet another home to restore. Eleven squads will have repaired twelve homes this week. The squads have moved around to new worksites and are ready to complete their mission.

This evening at worshiip, we had yet another exciting time of praise led by Kevin and Jordyn. The songs "Freedom" and "O Happy Day" have become a staple at worship here in Wetumpka. Jeremy's message this evening was about how we must stay accountable. He finished his sermon and challenged us with this question: Are you going to follow the crowd or the cross?

Please keep the Wetumpka project in your prayers as the squads finish up their work tomorrow. It has thankfully cooled off some, so the squads are working even harder.

With love,

Mikki and Taylor

Day Four: Tuesday

Well, the week in Wetumpka is about halfway through. The squads got their second day of work done with smooth sailing all day. Thankfully the rain held off all day, but it sure was hot today. It is certainly apparent that some squads are set to finish their projects early and move on to help another squad. The squads get their half day tomorrow, so they'll be able to rest and gear up for the rest of the week.

This evening in place of our usual worship, we held our concert of prayer. The focus of the service was Isaiah 6, and the participants came in turn and wrote down who God is to them, nailed their burdens to a cross at the front of the sanctuary, and present their gift to the misisons offering. It was amazing to see the flood of participants that came to the buckets at the front of the sacntuary to present their offering.

After worship, we held our annual auction, where we auctioned a pass to the front of the dinner line, a chance to sleep late for an hour, and a guitar lesson from Kevin and Jordyn. One of our highest bids was for a chance to go to Starbucks with the staff for breakfast, as well as the chance to shave one of our volunteer's head. After all was said and done, our total offering was $1673.01, almost $14 per person, greatly exceeding our goal. There was no question that the Lord was present in Wetumpka last night.

Keep the participants in your prayers tomorrow as they go through their half day. Pray that they stay safe and focused and that they get good rest tomorrow afternoon.

Love from Wetumpka,

Mikki and Taylor

Day Three: Monday

The squads wouldn't let a bit of rain put a damper on their first day of work! Even when the bottom fell out this morning, the squads took refuge in their vans and under porches and got right back to work as soon as it cleared. Everyone came back excited to share stories of the day, as well as to brag about how much they accomplished on their worksites.

Everyone was excited during worship as usual as Kevin and Jordyn led us in O Happy Day. After a celebratory time, the mood changed as we showed our offering video and a fellow staffer, Caleb, came and shared his experience with the tornadoes that tore through the Southeast in April. It is apparent that the participants are eager to help those affected and eager to give. Jeremy's message this evening was from 2 Timothy Chapter 1. He spoke about how God has given us the passion, the resources, and the stamina to carry out the calling he has presented us with.

The participants are winding down for the evening so that they may ready themselves for another great day at the worksite. Please pray that everyone will stay safe, and that the rain will hold off until tomorrow night, so that the squads may not be hindered at all.

With Love,

Mikki and Taylor

Day Two: Sunday

The first full day of Mission Serve Wetumpka is in the books. The participants arose this morning eager to worship, and headed off to their host churches with their squads for worship and lunch. After lunch, the squads went to visit their worksites so that they could meet their homeowner and get a feel for what all they would be doing this week. They squads then returned to the church for squad position training, so the Medics, Chaplains, and Breakmasters could learn the ropes of their positions.

After taking the group picture and dinner, we had one of the most energetic worships that we have seen in a while, courtesy of the song "Freedom" complete with singing, jumping, screaming, and dancing. Jeremy's message tonight was about being prepared. He used the example of how he had prepared to run a 5K, and related it to how the participants prepared themselves for this week, as well as how Jesus prepared himself to die on the cross for us.

Tomorrow the squads set out for their first day of work. Please keep all of the squads in your prayers. It's going to be a hot week here in Alabama, so pray that the participants stay safe throughout their work.

In Him,

Mikki and Taylor

Day One: Saturday

Mission Serve 2011: Wetumpka is officially underway! The groups began arriving early this afternoon, and steadily streamed in as the day progressed. The nine churches traveled from near and far, everywhere from Indiana and Texas to just down the road. The participants enjoyed a lively orientation with games led by our band, Kevin, Jordyn, Chuck, and Patrick. The games included Banana Feet, Bobblehead, and a Tabasco chug(which ended interestingly).

After dinner, the participants gathered for worship led by Kevin and Jordyn, with a message from our PC/Worship Speaker Jeremy. Jeremy's message to kick off the week was the theme of Mission Serve 2011, which is about staying grounded in Christ throughout the week and throughout our lives.

The participants have meet their squads and the evening is winding down. Please keep everyone on your prayers as the visit their host churches in the morning and their worksites tomorrow afternoon.

with love from Wetumpka,

Mikki and Taylor
