Auction

Thursday mornings are rough after a relaxing evening off, but everyone jumped right back into where they started. Some finished early and are now helping other squads, while others stay a little later to get some extra work done. What they've begun is now almost done! Tonight in worship, the campers learned about what it means to remain grounded in God and how important it is to stick to your faith. Pam, our project coordinator, shared her testimony of trying times that she had to remain true to her faith or she would not have made it through. We must build our house on firm foundation so it won't fall apart, and we must build our lives on God so we won't fall apart.

After worship, the staff held an auction to raise more money for the mission offering that goes directly to help the Mission Serve project in the disaster stricken Alabama. Some of the higher ticket items were a date with a volunteer staff, a pass to the staff shower, and finally a boy auctioned off his long locks to be cut. All in all, they raised over $300 tonight. They will find out the final offering tally tomorrow night!

Free Night

Wednesday is the probably the most appreciated day of the week, everyone's yearning for an evening of relaxation after all the hard work throughout the week. Today everyone went to site as normal and left after lunch to get cleaned up for a night on the town. Though Smithfield may not be known for a city of adventure, the church groups ventured to the local mall or to the movies and ate dinner- just what the doctor ordered. They prepare to finish the week as strong as they started.

Concert of Prayer

With a high of 100 degrees, today was a hot one, but that didn't stop productivity. Everyone kept up their work and came back to showers and rest before the concert of prayer. Tonight's concert of prayer was a night of just that: prayer. The room was filled with God's children conversing with him; praying for their group's adults and families who made sacrifices to be here, praying for each other in their walks with the Lord, praying for their homeowners and the affects of their work. They also participated in a very humbling activity which comes from John 13, the washing of feet. The students began to wash the adults' feet and everyone really opened up, the room was filled with love and grace. Keep Smithfield in your prayers as they continue to grow together and apart in their walks with God.

First Day on Site

Today was the first of many early morning wake-up calls: 6 am. However, the first day on site is always exciting because no one knows what to expect yet. This week there are a variety of jobs, but the main priority is sharing God's love and not being afraid of what He can do, having faith that, through Him, all things are possible. Tonight in worship, Timothy spoke of a calling, our calling is to have faith in God's plan for us. In Judges, Gideon is to defeat the Midianites with an army of only 300 men. And without God, this would have been a tall order, but God brought them to victory, and in turned revealed his greatness through the strength they lacked.

Meet Your Squad

When everyone wakes up, they go to the mail wall to find out what squad they are on and then meet with them for the first time. After their first squad chat, they are picked up by their host churches for the week and are escorted to Sunday service there. The host churches will be feeding the squads lunch every day during the week. Then they went to the site they will be working at during the week to meet their homeowners. In the afternoon, everyone attended evangelism training to better prepare for the job of the week that is the foundation of the physical labor provided: witnessing. Keeping in mind the true purpose of the work done this week- showing Christ's love- will help everyone stay in check when the sun is blazing down. Keep them all in your prayers this week as the endure the work God has cut out for them.

Arrival

It's hot on Saturday afternoon in Smithfield when everyone's arriving at FBC Smithfield, a taste of what's to come in the week. With such small numbers, everyone is bound to really get to know all the others here; a very intimate atmosphere. In the Opening Celebration, the band played some entertaining songs and some of the kids got to play Pudding Pants: whoever find the piece of bubblegum and blows a bubble first wins! During worship, Timothy speaks on what it means to be grounded in God, getting our strength from Him and not from within ourselves. Looking at Ephesians 3:16, we see that with "his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his spirit." When you let your roots grow deeper into God's love, you will find strength.

After worship, everyone gathered in prayer over one of the church groups dealing with a struggle at home, we ask that you also keep Meta Baptist Church in your prayers.

Everyone divides into church group devotions before retiring to bed and getting ready to meets their squads in the morning time.
