The week is quickly flying by and everyone is starting to realize that we are almost done!

Everyone had a great afternoon and evening off yesterday, with some youth groups going to Monroe, LA and some to Mississippi. Everyone woke up today refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the week! Squads are well on their way to finishing their tasks at the worksites, and the houses are looking great with their new coats of paint and beautiful new roofs.

Worship tonight will be a very special service called Concert of Prayer. The focus will be on the condition of our hearts, and following God’s command to love Him and others will all our heart, soul, and mind. Please pray that each participant’s heart will be open to this precious time with their Savior, that they would be able to focus on what God has to teach each of them and that their hearts would be totally in tune with Him and His Word.

As we head into our last day tomorrow, please pray for safety and health so that squads can finish strong! Most of all, please pray that they would be used by God to be blessings to the homeowners and neighbors that are affected by their work, and that Lake Providence would see tangible evidence of the love of God.

Don’t forget you can still send a ServEmail to participants – just click here! The ServEmail system will be open until Friday night at 10:00 PM.

This is an amazing group of students! They were all up and out the doors by 7:00 this morning to head to their work-sites. The rain held off, and though it was warm, it wasn't too hot. This was a blessing to all of the squads and they continued making great progress on their houses. Students have had opportunities to meet their home-owners, and neighbors have begun to wonder what is going on! Pray that they will see Jesus behind the work that is done. That is what Mission Serve is all about!

Tonight's worship service was about obedience. Bruce challenged the students to consider their own life and whether or not they are living in obedience to Christ and His commands.

The Scripture used was John 14:23, 24a:

"23Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me."

Tonight we also took up an offering, which will go to future projects in Guatemala and New York City. The grand total (as of right now) is $2,295.19. This is an average of over $10 per participant!

Mission Serve is blessed to have such a willing and committed group of people here this week. Please continue to lift them up in prayer as they work hard for half a day tomorrow before returning to the church. Youth groups will take the afternoon and evening off tomorrow...a well deserved break!

We had an exciting first day on the worksites. Students woke up and were in the breakfast line at 6:00 AM. Morning briefing was at 7:00, which included an encouraging word from our speaker and a couple of lively songs with our band, Burgundy Road!

Squads enjoyed a fairly mild day as far as the weather went, with just a few scattered showers. A lot of progress was made for the first day of work, and relationships were initiated with home-owners and neighbors!

Tonight's worship service was about hope, and how sharing hope with others is not optional, but it is a privilege.

The Scripture used was Matthew 5:14-16,

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

We are excited to see how students take the love and hope of Christ into the neighborhoods of Lake Providence, and also ready to watch God work in the lives of our participants as well! They have a busy, hard, but extremely rewarding week ahead of them.... Please remember the students and adult leaders in prayer throughout the week.

Welcome to the Mission Serve Lake Providence website! The coordinating team and staff are so excited to finally meet the participants and to finally see the project coming together. Groups arrived yesterday between 2 and 4, and we had our opening celebration at 4:30.

Last night we had our first worship service. Worship was led by an awesome band from Texas, called Burgundy Road. Our speaker, Bruce McGee, spoke about love. The Scripture used was Matthew 22:37-40, which says:

"Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Bruce challenged students to seriously consider their walk with the Lord, and whether or not they are truly living life in a way that reflects loving Him with all their heart, soul, and mind.

After worship last night groups were able to find out what squad they will be on for the week, and they got to meet each other and begin to build relationships with one another. Please pray for the squads specifically that they would begin to build teamwork and get to know one another well over the next couple of days. Today they attended church as squads and then were able to visit the homes that they will be working on.

Don't forget you can send anyone at the project an email, which we will print and place in their mailbox! Click here to send a ServEmail.

Lake Providence is an area of great need. Identified as one of the poorest areas of the country, Lake Providence has many low-income familes. Mission Serve has been working over the past few years to help eliminate substandard housing in this area. Our coordinating team has a heart for this area, and is returning to coordinate this project. This project has a lot of local support, and students will have the opportunity to visit some great local churches on Sunday morning. Lodging will be at Lake Providence High School. Worship will be led by Burgundy Road from Austin Texas and Bruce McGee from Lawrenceville GA. Join us for a great opportunity to impact this low income area.
