The Last Day

Journeying out for one last hoorah, squads departed at 7:30 am as usual to finish their jobs. Luckily, the weather in Cherokee this week was just hot enough to where everyone could stay hydrated and work without too much trouble. All projects were completely in due time, some even early as noon. Squads returned to the school ready to relax and hang out with all their new friends one more afternoon. Closing celebration took worship's normal slot to recognize all the hard work put into the project and welcome home owners who could make it. After one final squad chat, worship started up and ended the project in Cherokee with a bang.

The Day After Free Night

Always the hardest morning to wake up, groups were hesitant to wake up after having the night off. Nevertheless, squads were off to site by 7:30 am to start the end of the project process, tying up loose ends, or helping other squads finish up. Returning at 4 pm as usual, groups were a little more tired than they were on the first day. Worship that night was a very powerful lesson of obedience, followed by church debriefing again and a night of ease. Only one more day to finish what they started, groups eagerly went to bed to prepare for one last ride out.

Free Night

Already exhausted from the previous days, numbers at breakfast were dwindling, so of course everyone was ready for a half day and a night off. Returning after lunch, groups were out the door by lunch, ready to go white water rafting or shopping or a number of other activities on the agenda. After a wonderful night off, groups returned to the school ready for bed yet again to sleep hard for another early morning to come.

Concert of Prayer

A beautiful day in Cherokee, participants started up early again, but this time to sun instead of rain. Making up for lost time from the rainy weather the day before, everyone was extra tired upon their return that afternoon. However, the groups all got cleaned up for dinner and the concert of prayer, which is a reverent time of prayer where those who are lead can come to meet with the Lord on a very personal and intimate level. Scriptures were read, praises sang, and the mission offering was collected for a total over $2,300. After church group debriefing, individuals flocked to the auditorium for an auction which raised more money for the offering. Some of the high ticket items were a private shower, sleeping in one morning, or having lunch of your choice brought to your site. Such an eventful day left everyone worn out and ready for bed and a half day to come in the morning.

First Day on Site

Waking up at the crack of dawn, everyone ate breakfast and headed off to site by 7:30 am to get started. Though it rained most of the day, some squads were able to get some work done before returning at 4 that afternoon. It was a relaxing afternoon in Cherokee; groups were able to rest up during their free time before worship and church group debriefing. It wasn't long before 10:30 rolled around and participants slowly made their way to their rooms for lights out and another early morning.

Sunday

After a long day of travel, all our groups have finally arrived.   We have almost 400 working here in Cherokee this week.   We had a great night of worship last night.  The Justin Teseniar Band did an incredibly job of leading us in worship and Kevin Champion spoke about stripping away outwards apperances and getting back to the love of Christ.  It was a powerful night with Christ.  Squads are out working today.  We have had a little rain and some squads have been unable to start, but we have several that have hit the ground running.  Please keep our squads and the weather in your prayers, and that Christ will be glorified in all that we do this week.

Cherokee continues to be one of our most popular projects. Located in the heart of the Great Smokey Mountains, Cherokee is rich with tradition and culture. We partner with the Cherokee Housing Board to rehabilitate homes in the areas. Our lodging location will likely be at a local school. This project has a very strong coordinating team who has coordinated several projects in the area. The band will be Justin Teseniar who have led worship at camps and Mission trips all over the Southeast.
